Fulham attacker Bryan Ruiz has sensationally admitted that he wanted to join Tottenham in the summer, and not his current employers.
The Costa Rica international signed for The Cottagers for a fee of £10.6 million from Dutch side Twente, but has struggled to adjust to the higher quality in England than in the Eredivisie.
Ruiz has not yet won over Fulham fans, and his latest revelations will not win the supporters’ favour.
“I did not want Fulham. Previously Tottenham were interested; this is a club that you say ‘yes’ to. But it was never real,” the Central American told Voetbal International.
“On August 30 Fulham arrived in the bidding. My manager called and said there was an agreement between the clubs and that we were going to London. I hesitated again, but he convinced me.
“Attractive financial terms and a conversation with Martin Jol won me over,” he concluded.
Ruiz has been improving of late after an uninspiring start to his time in London, and boss Martin Jol was impressed with his showing in the 1-0 win over Liverpool on Monday night.
“Bryan’s a quality player. It’s a different style that he’s used to playing in Holland. He’s got more time, he’s got vision, he wants to play the killer ball and I think it’s the quality you need.

“We have to adapt to him and he has to adapt to English football. I started him against Arsenal and on the ball, he’s good. He can make a difference,” the Cottagers boss stated.
